What We Treat
Teen Girl Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders
Knowing your daughter needs help is the first step. At Roots Renewal Ranch, we provide specialized residential treatment for teen girls ages 13-17 facing a wide range of mental health challenges, including:
- Social pressures: Negative comments on appearance, peer victimization, and social media influence.
- Mood and self-esteem: Depression, anxiety, feelings of shame, and insecurity.
- Social media and image: Pressure from filtered photos, airbrushed standards, and envy.
- Behavior and substance use: Eating disorders, substance use, and long-term wellness concerns.
In 2021, over 20% of adolescents ages 12-17 reported experiencing a major depressive episode. Roots Renewal Ranch understands the need for curated mental health care for adolescents, specifically girls. Bullying, social and physical image, and peer pressure can cause mental health to deteriorate quickly. Our program offers specific therapies to address these concerns and more through adolescent girl treatment.

Group Counseling
Teen girl group therapy provides a supportive environment where adolescent girls can share their thoughts and feelings with peers facing similar life experiences. The sessions are guided by a trained therapist and focus on effective communication, building self-esteem, and developing healthy coping strategies. The goal is to face difficulties with anxiety, peer pressure, relationships, and self-identity, allowing group therapy participants to feel better understood, less isolated, and more empowered to navigate school and relationships.
The group setting allows teens to practice interpersonal skills, improve emotional regulation, and gain diverse perspectives on common challenges. Through open discussions, creative activities, and structured exercises, teens build resilience and strengthen their sense of community. This collaborative approach not only addresses your daughter’s thoughts but also improves mutual encouragement and growth within a safe and nurturing space.
Family Program
While many of our therapies focus individually on your daughter, our family program offers additional services to you and the rest of your family. This includes one-on-one sessions between you as a parent and your daughter’s therapist, weekly full-family sessions, support groups, and educational opportunities for parents and siblings. We also offer training during our intensive family weekends.
Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT)
One of the family therapy opportunities we provide is emotion-focused family therapy or EFFT. EFFT is a form of therapy that focuses on supporting you as the parent to be an active participant in your daughter’s recovery from substance use or her mental health journey. This is intended to give you and the family the support and information needed to co-regulate and positively impact each other’s mental health. EFFT is designed for parents to work through feelings of fear and self-blame around their daughter’s mental health and/or substance use.
Structural Family Therapy (SFT)
Structural family therapy or SFT looks to improve family interactions and reduce stress for your daughter as well as her parents and siblings. SFT works to improve communication and understanding between individual family members in order to help the family unit as a whole, enabling them to function in a healthy fashion.
Needing SFT does not mean that you as a parent are failing your daughter. It is simply a tool that improves communication and connections within the family in order to help each member understand where the other is coming from. SFT is often helpful when you or another family member is trying to understand your daughter’s mental health condition or substance use disorder.
