Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression

A community where individuals come together to experience healing and wholeness can be a wonderful place. However, when a group of people comes together to find recovery from mental illness, substance use, and trauma, conflict will sometimes arise among the young women receiving treatment at our facility. We give all of our staff training in a method called Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression, or SAMA, so they have the tools needed to manage any conflict in our healing community.

Founder of SAMA

SAMA is a technique that sees anger as a secondary emotion driven by fear and a lack of power. SAMA’s founder Larry Hampton says, “We all deserve to get our needs met, but not at the expense of other people.” SAMA training equips our staff to respond to conflict in a way that keeps our patients and staff safe, invites the person in crisis into cooperation, and teaches anger management techniques that will be valuable as your daughter grows into adulthood.

What Can SAMA Help Manage?

SAMA, when applied correctly, can help you with a wide range of intense situations that can interfere with the healing goals of the community. Our therapists and counselors are trained to use this technique to its full potential and can help you with a wide variety of situations, including:

  • Arguments between clients
  • Fighting
  • Belligerent or violent patients
  • Emotional outbursts such as uncontrollable anger or crying
